ok so i got some brembo rotors and i read a misc website that said that the calipers from a escort Gt or a protoge would fit on the mx3 which is a good thing because Brembo makes calipers for these cars so what i wanna know is this true?

Ya, I had Protege brakes on the car since I bought it over two years ago. I didn't know it though, I just found out when I went to get my calipers replaced. It was kinda a surprise to find out that I had Protege brakes on, but they worked just fine.

Are them bigger?

Ya. Yesterday I was driving a bit fast, brakes got real hot, started smoking, and almost didn't stop at a stop sign. GS model. So I want some brake upgrades. big rotors/calipers/pads. What other cars share the same size stuff? I have heard proteges use the same caliper I think. but what can I search for?? Thanks for any help.

Brembo makes aftermarket rotors for the MX-3. How about Brembo Calipers? Does Brembo make big aftermarket calipers for the Mazda MX-3? (They're application guides have been taken down right now and being replaced so I can't look anything up. I tried weeks ago as well...)

or if none for the mx3, are there any Brembo Calipers made for other cars, like the protege, that can be crossed over to our car?

What did you think the MX-3 was? Mechanically it is identical to the (BG) 323 since it is built on the same basic chassis. Actually many of the MX-3 including the V-6 have the slightly small brakes from the under 1.6L 323 hatchback and not the larger brakes from the (BG1) 323GT (1.8L BP-DE) and Protege . The actual design did not change much from the even smaller BF 323 brakes and even these parts can be interchanged.

BTW the OE P/N# for the MX-3 front brakes dates to a first production date of '89, 3 years before the MX-3 first rolled off the assembly line.

You do realize that Brembo make OE quality stock replacement parts as well as High performance brake parts. The OE stuff is usually marketed under the Brembo name just that is seems that some marketing guy has used brand recognition to the companies advantage selling their lower end stuff in North American as the higher performance stuff The true performance Brembo parts are usually sold under the Brem-Sport name.

There were several big brake kits for the 323/Familia (Protege, EGT/ Tracer, Astina, Sephia, MX-3) over the years but they all no longer appear in any of the manufactures catalog listings a 2003. They all listed for about $2800-$3600 for the front kit and starting at $3500 for the rear kit which is why they were never a hot seller.

well, i wonder if an actual big brake kit made by brembo (with red calipers and the brembo insignia in white) are still lying around somewhere to be bought ... the only big brake system i know of is organized by Precision with a mis-match of different brands compromising the kit, but if i could find a real brembo kit that fits the mx3, hey, who knows ... there just might be money on my tree after all

Using different brands to make a kit is not necessarily a bad thing.
Precision Brakes use Wilwood discs and calipers I believe, and as such is not a mis-match

It`s basically the same when we get new discs and new rotors for our OE brakes. Works often better than stock, but is a so-called mis-match

I got OE calipers with Brembo discs and Porterfield R4-S pads, works very nice.

Ahhh... Brembo never made a big brake kit for the 323 base cars.

we should all be devoting ourselves to group buys or some method of lowering the price of these big brake kits, because, the way i see it: big rims and thin sidewalls can NOT - i repeat - can NOT - coincide with our dinky rusty stock brake systems ... it's like having steak with no rice. sex with no woman

as I see it, $1500 is not too much for a bigbrake kit.

But, you could always do a Galant VR-4 swap.
