Lowering Springs?

I have some 17" wheels and I want to lower my car to get rid of the gap. Could i just get lowering springs, or would I need to buy new struts with the springs? What about coilovers? Would they work?

I have also 17" wheels with 215/45 tires<BR>and I have used some jamex 45mm springs only.

Would just having springs give me a smooth ride?
