Who would have ever thought those harmless looking little squirrels! Back in September the distributor broke and in debugging the problem I pulled the cover off the timing belt to make sure the belt hadn't jumped a tooth. I've seen many people running motors without a timing belt cover and never thought about it.
It would seem that the timing belt broke because some wiseassed squirrel decided that the hole was a great place to hide his peanuts!
