Remote starters...

How easy are they to install? I wanna have my car all warmed up for me when i get to it... so i needa remote starter...

where's the best place to buy some? autozone? and how easy are they to install, and how reliable are they?

They are pretty easy for people with car experience.
Reliable - Are only as reliable as the install. I'd get a reputable shop to install it, someone with a lifetime warrenty on labour. Check around gonna be some good prices seeing as winter is around the corner.....

honesly now is the time to get it, the are sometimes on sale rigth now. have someone esle install it unless you are really sure you know what u are doing, also if you have a 5 speed things get a little more tricky and some shops will not even install one on a 5 speed

Actually there are several models of car starters made specifically for manual transmission vehicles. These units have several fail safes that the unit must see for the car to remote start. It must see the car running, the handbrake engaged, all the doors closed and locked before the engine is shut of with the remote. If any door is opened then the starter will disengage and this whole procedure must be followed again if the car is to be remote started. I have several friends that are R&D engineers for the companies that manucaftures these units. On Mazda's and Nissan's the installer could also use the OE neutral switch to kill the remote starter if the car is somehow put into gear. None of these units are officially exported south of the border due to issue of poor installations and liability. If you do buy one of these units outside Canada it is considered a black market import.

installing it to a 5 speed should be just as easy as doing it to an Automatic... depending on how you connect it. The only wire to worry about is the actual starter wire. When I install them, I usually find the one wire that goes straight to the starter, and connect it there, so there would never be the issue of the clucch being put in or what gear the car is in. I did this in my truck and forgot it was in gear, (almost ran over my friend when testing it). If you connect it else where (to the switch) you will have more chance of messing with the wrong wire or more complicated things (in most cars). Like I said, it all depends on your preference or "Style" of installing the alarm.

Quality would be my concern cause it would be a pain if it failed.....

I use to work on diesel gen sets with automatic starts and its pretty messy when they fail and the starter motor stays engaged. Costly too.

So the installation must be spot on, be very careful if you do it yourself.

hmmmmmmmmmm remote starters...i luv em but had a real craptastic experience with mine. just dont buy it at walmart and everything will be a-ok. the installation went fine it was installed correct. quite easy to install except for the upside down head for a while. the problem was something to do with the amount of power that was being distributed. i kept blowing fuses, and then the next day i needed a new distributor. make sure to check that your remote starter is compatable with the type of fuses you have and how much they support. you may need some type of relay, i did and didnt use it. thats why i screwed myself. good luck man! just dont go to walmart!!! say no to bulldog!!!!!
