Ticking While Deccelerating

Post by razule »

This is my first post on this board and just want to say hi. I've a problem with a ticking during decceleration. I've read around on the boards and have figured out some possibilities to the problem but i am trying to narrow it down more. I drive a 94 mx-3 4cyl. DOHC. The problem started on my way home after i made a sharp turn and accelerated again. It only happens during decceleration after i let off the gas, otherwise there is nothing wrong sounding. Would this most likely be my cv joint or am i screwed and probably have messed up lifters. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

WELCOME!

A common noise for the 4 cyl. is Vavle Ticking. So it might be comming from the engine and you just can't hear it while accelerating. Other then that if you don't hear it while parked then forgot this....

Yeah, if im parked or stopped it doesnt make any sound. while im driving and deccelerate/come to a stop it'll wind down slower as i slow down and ends when im stopped.

I would doubt that its you cv... my nockers ( :D ) are messed up and my car ticks/clacks sometimes... but that doesnt seem to be the problem with yours since it stops when your car is stopped...

you have an automatic?

If you put it in neutral and rev the engine does it knock while it winds down? If not then purhaps you should get ready for a boom yourself?

but im no mechanic... so i dunno... just my 2 cents
