If 2 cars had the exact same model and make and parts ( basically identical in every way) except one was a manual trans and one was an automatic, how much faster would the manual be . Assuming both cars were driven by equally skilled drivers ??

I don't know exactly how much faster but I know any 5 speed manual model is much faster then the automatic. Your 5 speed you can redline to 7 or 8 thousand RPM's and do it for 5 gears, your automatic shifts much lower and wont pick up great speed. But I only know so much ,, I tried.
Image Image Image ;(

if i floor my automatic 92 mx-3 gs, it goes all the way to redline ( i think 7500) and then shifts, then in 2nd gear goes to redline again before shifting, and so on and so forth. this is if i floor the beast though. i've raced other mx's which were manual and it seems from the start we're pretty even but when i shift from 1st to second, they get an edge. manual's shift quicker i assume. but they don't destroy me, it's pretty damn close.

Stick MX-3 GS's are about 1 second or more quicker in the 1/4 mile than Automatic equipped MX-3 GS's from what I've seen...
------------------
David Coleman- Moderator
1993 Mazda MX-3 GS Special Edition
Why get clear tail lights when only Geo Metros are gonna see them?
