I keep coming across this on eBay. Has anyone ever heard of this or even tried it yet? Please check out the link, thanks.

So we can put a resisitor in our engine bay somewhere random and get more HP? thats almost as useless as saying decals increase performance. lol

ACtually, yes you can. Keep in mind we are not talking massive insane OMG performance, but you can use them for a marginal increase in power namely threw modifing the computers timing advace.

torpedan, so you think this may actually be legit? I wonder if anyone on this board has eer attempted this. I was a little skeptical about the use of a resistor to increase hp as well, but you make a good point about playing with the timing. If this is what the chip is doing then couldn't we just advance the timing ourselves and get the same results? What are your thought? Thanks.

These "chips" fool the engine into thinking the intake air is colder than it actually is. The result is your engine runs a too-rich fuel mixture.

where exactly is the AIT sensor on the bp motors, i'm used to it just being on the intake tube itself, but that's on engines without a MAF. I got one of those resistors in some grille mesh i bought off ebay, and i'm almost tempted to try it, b/c at one time i had a suzuki samurai, and i could notice i slight difference, nothing to brag about, but it was there.

Thanks-Joe

i wouldnt do it because mazda motors already run rich and your just gonna cause alot more ring wear

How can a 20c resistor do something the Mazda engineers can't (or won't)? Its gotta be crap

are we one of the only cars who don't have a legit chip? i know a few cars who had "chips" installed in the computer and got over 10 hp from it

yeah i had a 91 s-10 blazer that i had hopped up, and i put a stage 2 hypertech chip on it and almost gained 30hp from it. I really wish they could reprogram these ECU's.

The premise behind it is. Just i would do your own reserach and read up a bit on what it is and then consider weather or not you could benefit from it. For the mots part it is impracticle.

Yes you can advance it yourself as well, the results are not the same though. I would rather advace it myself though as of it gives you better control.

This is true as well, A lot of "Chips" actually make the motor run leaner and advace the timing on the low end. Overall it nets a better powerband but the lifespace of the motor has the potential to be shortend

All the sensors are in the MAF if i recall correctly

Not true, when you desing a motor the absoulate most important thing to consider is the lifespan of the motor. When taking this into consideration you have to consider that people eventually WILL get a bad tank of gas, People will neglect there motors and people WILL do stupid things to them as well.

With the altered settings from the resistor the engine will run richer which will lower gas milage and need a higher octane fuel. So when that one bad tank of gas happens and you need 87 and you get 82... Well you can google for the results, there are some really good images of motors being blown up..

so if i turn my distributor a little to advance it i need to use higher octane or it will blow the engine? sorry if my question is way off but i'm trying to understand what you are saying cause i just did that to my distributor

Yes and No. A further advacned timing requires a higher octane, most oem applicatoins are very undertuned for the reason that not all gas is created Eqaul. Also as gas sits the octane value of it drops as well, so it may have been 91 at one time, but is now 89 from how long it sat, this is sometiems when you can get a bad tank of gas.

Usually it will just ping like crazy, the motors are fairly stout just dont rag on it when it does. What octane you need to run for how far its advanced is also affected by the climate. The 100 deg temps we see in texas commonly tend to not be too freidnly for running lower octane fuel.

i bought one of those ristister pos chips all it did was frie my att and suck up a ton of gas soo id say dont buy it just advance ur timming on the dist. and run 93oct with octane booster i like to use pro-blend nitropower that one has the best increse of power
