BPT swap into SOHC vs DOHC

Post by xXx_OTEP_xXx »

I checked the FAQ but didn't see an answer to this... would it be easier to swap the BPT into a SOHC or DOHC RS, if there would be any difference...? If so, why?
Thanks

I thought that only difference between the RS and GS were the engines?

RS (1.6 SOHC) vs. GS (1.8 DOHC)

I wasn't aware of a DOHC RS.

RS--
SOHC: 92-93
DOHC: 94+

GS has always been a DOHC

i'd say a sohc as then you can use the protege ecu to help with the fuel maps. also, it's easier to use the f-series tranny if you wanted to. other than that, no differences. they fit the same.

Thanks Ashley. Does the tranny have to do with how long the axles are? Or something with the axles..?

I should've just bought your car, lol.

You could use the BP tranny and axles. The tranny is stronger. The Protege axles also help get rid of some the torque steer.

I think the DOHC is easier because the TPS pins match up better. I'm not too positive. I the the SOHC has one less pin, which means you have to do some extra work.

yes you should have :2thumbsup:

if you keep the f-series, then you want the sohc passenger side axle as it's one piece, whereas the 94+ have a jack-shaft.
