Hello everyone,

I have a 93 1.6 sohc 16-Valve and I was wanting to know what makes the dohc better besides the valve setup.

1. I have read on here several times that the sohc has 88 whp and was also wandering if anyone knew if that was the 8 or 16-Valve model HP rating or if they had the same amount.

2. I mean what gives the dohc more Hp than the sohc 16-Valve.
Differnt cams,Pistons,crank,compression,ect...

3. Also if anyone could tell me if my car has VRIS on it that would be great.

Thanks in advance, Gary Retherford
 :welder:
P.S I have already ran several searches so please don't flame me. :rant2:

The sohc 16valve engine came with the 88hp. The 94 dohc RS's came with 105hp. The differences were substantial. The dohc had a different valvetrain / cylinder head alltogether, along with what's called - VICS, which stands for variable inertial charging system. Easily confused with VIRS, VIRS was used in all K-series V-6 engines. Both (virs/vics) are designed into the intake manifold to give the engine a smoother, broader torque curve. The sohc did not have the VICS induction. The engines bottom end is really unchanged btwn the two different models. They both share the same blocks.

The SOHC does not have 88 WHP. It supposedly has 88 hp at the crank.

I have an Automatic 1.6L SOHC, and A Dyno on my car a few years ago showed 66.7 hp to the wheels & 70.1 ft lbs of torque.

Also, All the SOHC MX-3's had 16 valves. The only variant that had 8 Valves was a 323.
