Turboed engine longevity question?

I've read a few posts about turbo charged engines and I've noticed that most of them have not lasted more than 5 or 6 months.
Is this a problem with turbo charging a 4 cylinder?
Also, I have a 1.6 4 cylinder DOHC.
What would happen if I was to install a turbo on this motor?
I intend to change the tranny, it's auto. :pimp:

most problems arise because people don't know what they are doing. they tend to go the cheap route and then wonder why it blew up. most tend to cheap-out when it comes to tuning. they run too much boost, with too much timing, and not enough tuning.

you could always buy my car...it's all set-up...the right way. oh, and i'm serious about buying my car.

My car has been running boosted for about 7 months with no problems. Its all about fuel management baby!
