are you adjusting the screw in the hole thats (if your looking at the motor head on) on the throttle body, kind out sticks out a bit, and is facing you?
cuz i messed with mine and screwd all kinds of stuff up. it would go up to like 1,500 when i put the clutch in and then go down to like 700(the car got a little quicker though).
but i played with it and now it's back to 750 normal, 730 under load (in neutral)

you adjusted it the wrong way then. If you adjust it 1 way, the idle rpms go up, goes down if turned in the opposite direction. I have done this. Also your Idle can be effected if your timing is out of wack.

check you throttle cable also, it may be too tight and pulling on the throttle slightly causing the car to rev that extra bit while idling. in other words the cable does not let the throttle come back to the 'neutral' position and keeps it slightly open therefore cable is causing the car to rev a bit higher than normal. The screw on top should affect you idle speed. This is just an idea thrown in to help you further diagnose the problem hope it helps some.
