1992 stock brakes question
i just got a 92 sohc 4 cyl last week. everything on it is stock. i've never seen a braking configuration like the one on this car. it was a real pain to chang the pads because the two pins were pretty rusted. anyway, what are those strangely shaped thin metal sheets behind each pad for? they didn't come with the brake kit or the new pads so i didn't bother to put them back on. do they actually serve a purpose and am i going to miss them?

Re: 1992 stock brakes question
The pieces of metal that u are referring to are the shims that come with the factory pads and some good quality aftermarket sets. some companies dont sell them with pads they just make them a little thicker. those pins are a real pain if they havent been serviced. u should have replaced them. i had a set of pads from raybestos that were so thick i couldnt fit the caliper over the pads!! thats aftermarket for ya. I have found that the o.e. pads are really alot better in a normal braking set-up/ hope this helps.
