Do you have hard shifts in your Automatic?

I have a 94 with the Automatic. Ever since I had the car it had a hard shift from 1st to 2nd gears. Well today I was checking the idle speed. I grounded out the diagnois port under the hood at "Ten" and "Gnd" then started the car, and the rpms were running at like 100-200 RPMS.
From there I turned the "+" on the throttle body until the RPms were at around 750 (were its suppose to be in the first place)
then I turned off the car and disconected the wiring I pluged in to the diagnois port and started the car up again. It goes up a little (rpms) then it settles down to 750.
I took it for a test spin and the the hard shift is not in the picture any more. and their is No Sluggish in first gear. You hit the gas and the car responds!
Bad Kitty , I think you were asking about this a while back and that ^ is what I came up with. I hope this works for everyone else who has this problem, Chris

I have the same problem so i called some mechanics today, and they said its going to be 40 dollars, now is it just me or is this a little much to turn a knob. I am afraid to take in because just over the phone they are saying it is my trans. I know it is a long shot but does anyone know a good mechanic in Winninpeg, Man. that they met at a car show who will do this for me.
Jess

See I went to O'reilys Auto parts and Found a Chilten mx-3 car guide. Its for the mx3, mx6, 626, 929, and the Probe.. In this look under , Idle adjust ment. It will say to locate the Diagnois Port under the hood. Mine was located next to the Fire wall drivers side. (left) I opened it and on the back of the door is a label saying what each terminal means. Find "Ten" and the "Gnd" terminals. Place a wire connecting each terminal. While car is Off.
Then start the car. You will notice the Rpms running lower than usual. I then found the + on the front of my throtle body and turned it counter clock wise until the Rpms were up to 750. This adjusts the air gas ratio. Then I turned off the car and unconnected my wire in the diagnois port and started the car up again and took it for a test spin and the hard shift is gone and seems for responive. I came across this while checking the timing on the car. One of the requirments was to check Idle speed.
Chris

Well it looks like back to the drawing board. The computer has fixed itself back and the hard shifts have returned again. It was nice while it lasted but the that punk is back!

You can't fool the diagnostics computer for very long. It figures everything out in its own time, Chris. Sorry! I think the automatic MX-3 is just gonna have to deal with the sluggish first gear and hard shifts, eh? I was gonna try it, but since it failed....I guess not.
