has anyone ever had to replace the rack and pinion??

if yes, why and how much did it cost you!<P>mine is starting to go for some strange reason, I had a knocking sound from the both wheels, I replaced both front links and a tie rod(355$ canadian, I know I got ripped off, I did'nt follow my mechanics first idea and I payd for it at a dealership, I'll never do it again ), but it's still there!but...... as soon as it hit the brakes over a bump, it stops. beats me !!!!!
