I was not aware that a license was required to buy a can of R-12 that was produced when it was available for sale and use my own old equipment to install said can of freon.

They were a mess. Used rubbing compound. Probably dulled the clearcoat but....the results show....

OK - so the car now has about 79,000 miles on the clock and has been semi-permanently moved to Kentucky for the school year and maybe more.

What a contrast to the last car from a fuel consumption standpoint - albeit an absolute blast to drive KLZE SE with a factory fuel tank, that car rarely ever got to 250 miles per tank.

With the expanded aftermarket fuel tank and me stuffing an extra gallon in so my daughter could make it all the way without stopping, and even running the A/C for a good part of the way from here to Lexington, she arrived safely and reliably (thankfully) and got 406 miles on one tank and averaged about 31 mpg!!!

And that's with a Panda in the passenger seat!!

I'm not surprised at 31mpg on highway, that's what it should get.

Yeah - but my paradigm is with a ZE engine where we got about 25 on the highway. So I am very happy......even blown away by the range!!!

OK - so a little update.

Daughter came home this weekend from Kentucky and the car performed flawlessly AFTER she got a slow leak taken care of on the LR tire. She got home and we put on Surgeonasst222's acquired driver's side door track and motor and now all is good with THAT issue.

Current report:

Yup - the "3" is gone. I sort of knew I had a good chance of it being sold when "they" drove up in "her" 2004 Mazda 3i with 2 kid's seats in the back, a manual transmission, and lots of rust. It got better when "he" said his Protege 5 just died.

We and "they" are very happy. If only I could find the one lost key fob......rats.

And the daughter put another 360 miles on the car since the photo was taken as she drove back to Lexington. It continues to perform well.....except for:

Occasional beeping belt signal and blinking light - even with the "new" belt motor and drive. It all works but she has to pull on the shoulder belt by about an inch every now and then to stop the beeping. A little more to look at I think but it is much better than the belt motor working intermittently.

Innocuous update......

Daughter came home over Thanksgiving. Car now has fresh oil, topped off the trans gear lube, checked tire pressures and looked at a sticky RR parking brake line. Lubed it all up and all is good again. Car had about 81,350 on it when she got home but now she's back in Lexington.....predicting 81,710 as of tonight!!
