TOT57071 should be the correct disty for the 93/94 BUT if you have a 57072 it technically shouldn't work unless you swapped the wires...

I know that with my 95 loom, I had to swap my two wires on the 3 pin disty plug because my ECU was a 93. It wouldn't start otherwise. I also noticed when using a TOT57072 disty that I could not time it (yes I was in diagnostics mode) and it would take about 5 or more cranks to fire up.

If you're using a 94 loom and 93/4 ECU, the 57071 should be correct. Even if it won't start, you just have to swap the two wires (red and blue, not the tach signal wire) and it will start right up.

What ECU are you running?? Don't just say a chipped KL31 or something, need to know what year it is and what year chip is in it. Some guys who do the chips mix 93 chips onto 95 ecu's etc.

Btw, please note I am amazed you paid 400 for a disty when you had a HEI setup lying around

to be honest im not 100% sure what year the ecu is. it had the ecu in it when I bought the car 6 years ago. An that's what I ordered was a 5071. I've been searching for a disty for over a week now for my car and I couldn't find anyone that was selling one in my area or on here. So I had no other choice, and im not 100% on how to hook up the hei mod.

Let me ask as I have searched and searched and found nothing.
This disty I just bought if for 93-94 mx6 an probe 2.5L according to the firing order ive seen its 543-612 however when I put the disty in, I get no spark at all which disty is 5071. I put my old one in and it works which is 7172. Could my wiring harness be a different year?

Your ECU or wiring harness could be. I'd say your ECU is. It's only two wires swapped on the disty 3 pin plug. It should be the red and blue that are swapped if I recall correctly. If you swap those over, it should start.

TOT57071 and TOT57072 are not the correct disties for your car. MX6 disties (TOT57072) are not correct for your car either. You need the 94 specific disty, this fact has been discussed many times. RX8SE3P is correct in saying 2 wires on the three wire plug are reversed but I can only say this for the 95-96-97. Newer disties 95-96- have no crank sensor, they will work but cranking will be much longer as the ECU is looking for that sensor.
Solo rider says TOT57171 is your disty part number but I just reread a post I commented in back in 2010 and moneyshot23 said a T0T57271 disty from a 94 MX6 worked for him, too bad for you cuz I just gave one away about 4 months ago  So I guess 171 or 271 could be gold for you Paul.

Swap the red and blue wire to where? Put the red where the blue is, an blue where the red is?

So I think I may have found the problem guys. As I was changing disties the other night either the wires from the 6pin or 3 pin everytime I move them the car stalls so it has a short in those wires somewhere. Uptill it just happened again I forgot all about this problem, really dumb on my end since I wasted $345 on a disty that I probably didn't even need, but it is what it is. So I was driving today and the car started doing what it did before, back fire back fire then loud POP, car died wouldn't start as I was sitting in the car thinking to myself im really getting sick of the bullsh*t with this car. I remembered the wires, so I took the hood off and tugged the wires a little bit, and what happened? Bam god damn thing started right up!. so I now must hunt down this short. will keep yas posted

update, the middle red wire in the 3 pin was broken inside the plastic piece, took the piece apart 2 little clips inside pulled the wire out and replaced it with new wire fired the car up pulled on wires an no stall or back fire. So hoping this fixes the problem. as for the new disty im going to try it again and see if the broken wire had anything to do with it.

Haha, well yes two or more disty's always is a good thing if you don't have HEI!

lmao I wasn't looking for a new disty to be honest. but when I was doing step by step problem solving on the disty it was showing that it was the disty if the wire shorted out before I bought the new one, I would have known it wasn't the disty. and trust me ive been really thinking about the HEI. but if the wires need to be changed around I need to know which ones need to be changed and where too.

Like I said red and blue should be swapped, don't touch the yellow signal wire :D
