no you dont once you get under there you will see that everything will come apartin front and back and you remove the whole control arm

i didn't...i just made sure the car was cold before i did it so i didn't burn myself. it's difficult doing the front one cuz the bolt has to go in a certain way (slotted head) anyways, i have little hands so i did it just fine, you'll have to see....

yeah i looked, and i think i will have a hard time getting my hand on top to pull the bolt out

Tried to do mine before i left for montreal, but both bolts were too rusted to budge, was able to get one of the nuts off, but the rest just started to strip as i cranked on them.. sprayed some WD-40 in to let it soak for next time when I try this. I did tighten the bolt at the bottom of the shift rod as a tempory fix and the rattle went away, shifter is a lot tighter and gear paths are easier to slip into. After driving to montreal it loosened to the point where the rattle and looseness started coming back.. but at least i know thats what the problem is.

my bolt was compleatly rounded off by the previous owner, had to use vice grips to get it off. but watch it, those bolts arnt easily replaced, when you take it out you will see why. if you think removing the bolt might damage it, call a mazda dealer and buy a new one
