know was that including the engine swap? Good that you cought that they was talking us$$ A lot of people seem to froget to look at where your from when they start talking about price. 2000us is about 2640cd plus labor and time on top of that trust me its not easy or fast to do. And if you they are swaping the motor for you to thats about the right price.

From what I understood the 6k would be on top of the 3k for the engine swap. Which i think is a little high. I am sure I saw your car at last years Toronto meet, though at the time your o2 sensors were not working. Is your motor a K8, DE or ZE? I am thinking that maybe I should pick up the bits and pieces first and then have the guys install everything. I am sure I can get some good prices on the laundry list over ebay or something.

But if you don't mind my asking..how much did you drop into boosting your mx?

Hi U:
Basically Mx3man83 has descripted my Setup and the prices of everything needed. The only difference is that I use the Kl injectors on my K8 instead of the Kj in the Kl!(and my intercooler was side mounted) Regarding on your choice between Kl or Kl-ze, I msut say that both engines has his pros and cons. There is an eternal fistfight between people who defends high boost-low compression engines and the ones that defend Low boost-high compression. Now I´m in a point that I can´t either choose!!! Rayman of probetalk has his Kl engine turbocharged at 13psi on stock internals and pulled 368,2 Hp with 351,4 lbs of torque
<img src="http://members.aol.com/NoPlayRay812/UR.jpg" alt=" - " />
He uses a set of 50 lbs injectors controlled with a SDS standalone management system. Now I´m building a bottom end of a Kl engine with forged rods and pistons (thanks God I have found them)and I have picked them ona 8,5:1 compression ratio. Sure that if I want to achieve the same horsepower level than Rayman, I will need more boost than him. That means that my turbocharger will be working harder, thus heating the air charge more than him. This is also a pre-ignition prone condition. That´s why I´m also building a water to air intercooler, starting with a modest size aluminium intercooler in order to cool the charge down.
My advantage on him is that I am a bit more in the safer side than him on most conditions. He should take his ignition timing more seriously than I to avoid detonation. His advantages are that he would have a better off boost response( which has been told before) and a denser intake charge than me (taking for sure that both have the same intercooler efficiency)

Other choice would be between both manifolds.
The Kl one has smaller passages than the ze one, so it will offer less lag (good), less overall airflow (bad for really high horsepower aspirations), better thermal efficiency (I read that large passages tend to let the engine heat more the intake charge, and if this is true it´s a bad thing) Both manifolds, by the way, need that both VRIS butterflies must be open when in boost. That can be done easily grounding both VRIS solenoids via a boost dependant switch.

We can´t forget about Camshaft profiles. The Kl-ze are more aggresive and with a great overlap than the Kl-de ones, which is a must on a N/a high revvin engine and a limitation on a turbocharged engine.

WOW I had no idea that the KL could pull such numbers! And I am very thankful for the very detailed reply you gave me. I would have to say that I am getting more replies that favour the KL turbo setup than the ZE turbo setup due to the overall maintence that the ZE would require. It would seem that my choice is more clear now than it was before. I guess it's now a matter of getting all the items on the laundry list and getting someone to put them on for me..hehehehe. Well thank you once again for a extremely helpful reponse.

Beautiful response Battosai. :2thumbsup: At least he's seemed to make his decision now.

Ok here is a really ignorant question...is the KLDE and the KL03 the same engine? If not what are the differences.

Can anyone tell where I can get my turbo installed on a KL03 engine for relatively cheap. When compared to A-Specs 6000bucks price tag?

or if you know someone that can bend your pipeing...

anyways...a kl-ze would be nice to boost, but only if you get the motor cheap.

granted, to get the intake mani from a ze is expensive in itself too, and thats the first thing id do if i had the 03, and couldnt get the ze.

now the high comp ratio means low boost, but whats wrong with low boost, when your making 15-20hp of every psi insteads of 7-10(minus the first one cuz that usually takes care of vacum) and running 7psi, thats a 100-140 hp gain. now building other things willg et you more obviously. and if tuned properly the 10:1 comp ratio shouldnt be a prob. hondas have high as **** comp ratios as well, but there are many boosted teggies. yes theres a strain on the engine but any boost strains the engine, high comp or low comp ratios.

tuning is key to any engine though...and as i believe ashley said once "low compression is a poor excuse for poor tuning"

now its true you can get the 03 up at running boosted with the ze, and it can be cheaper. so whats your goal? do you wanna be innovative and boost a ze, or do what the rest of the crowd does and make a bad as$ 03. your choice, each can be done, its just what you wanna do.
i got a 90 pgt...but wish it was a mx-3 bp-t!

I complete get what you are saying regarding following the pack and everything..the only diff is that I don't have the tech background to ensure proper maintenece and tunning of the ZE setup. And to be honest I am looking for something that has been tried and tested by others..maybe once i have become more knowlegable about the engines and everything maybe I Will go ahead and do something more radical with the ZE. But for now I would rather stick to the 03..just for the simplicity.
