Hey James, its is about two weeks till i park my car, depending on weather, and I was wondering if you could make a design for my hood like we discussed, email or call me and i will talk you more about it.

Once we have the prototype VDC working on your car, then we can surely do that hood conversion as well. I'm just waiting for you to have your car parked. I need the finalize a couple of measurements.

Their kit will work but it doesn't look as good. I'm not too fond on the hinge system they use since it is difficult to clear the fender without scraping on our cars. Also, it will depend if you want to see this big gas strut bolted to your car's lower hinge which I think that looks ugly. That's why I've made my own design.
[ September 08, 2003: Message edited by: WyldSide ]

It may be ugly, but it keeps the door up.
A linear actuator would work too.
Is this door going to open outwards like stock for 6" and then upwards?
Or just go up right away?
~A

In order to go strait up from close position, the top of the doorframe would have to be cut and welded to the door. Then the entire horizontal latch mechanism would have to be converted to a vertical one. That is not a pleasant procedure.
I have to do some more testing but my door design should be able to open as wide as it normally would with the added ability to go vertical as well. I believe this would make the design more flexible for all circumstances. When it's done, it will only need to open outwards enough to clear the doorframe before going up (Approx 15cm).
[ September 12, 2003: Message edited by: WyldSide ]

added feature? you mean we will be able to swing the door open like normal.. OR up vertically?? that would be sick, but i have no idea how you're doin it! but vertically.. IMO, u should pop out or somethin, to clear the fender, then pivot up like 80* like a lambo. 100% up looks kinda wierd. anywayz soundz like everybody on the site will buy one! LOL keep up tha good work

They had to go out as far as it would allow (which was basically stock) and then go up.
The one that is most popular among them so far is the one where it pops out 6" in stock movement, and then goes up in some fashion (not STRAIGHT up, but very close to it on some angle that allows it).
Just something to consider.
~A

If anything, this kit will have to open just a little bit to function properly. I'm actually having problems getting it to open sideways as much as stock. I'll try and photoedit my car to show what it might look like.
Image
Sorry, I couldn't make the interior look right but that should give you a general idea.
[ September 15, 2003: Message edited by: WyldSide ]

I couldn't draw the angle into that pic. It's actually not in the way. Since the door comes out a little sideways before going up. It gives you the room you need to get in. Unfortunately there are a lot of kits out there that do make it difficult to get in or out. That's another reason I'm designing mine to go up at least 80 Degrees. A lot of kits only seem to reach 65 -70 degrees. If I can master getting the door to open horizontally as much as stock; when the door is in the up position, you can simply push it outwards for more clearance. I hope that makes sense...
