ATF is definitely thinner so it flows better in freezing temps we're having right now. ATF is more refined fluid. Just like with car paint (Im painter so I know 
) there is acetone you can use to reduce your paint, it will work but you should use proper solvent as it has better ingredients designed to work with the particular paint you're using.
