CAI should yield a few power. I rememeber taking the filter off of mine and it gave me an extra few HP. The dyno does measure power at the wheels, so I can see the flywheel giving a few extra HP too. The flywheel does help response and most find that it does get up to revs quicker. Flywheels in race cars are almost non-existant weight wise because the weight is for inertia to help keep the revs up and ease driveability for daily driving. That weight does still need to be spun, what what absorbes energy to keep the system spining, will take it away from your wheel horsepower.

Perfect example, here's the flywheel in a Renesis Star Mazda race car.

Nice^

A light weight Flywheel is good for getting the rpm's up faster, as well as increasing HP numbers due to the weight off of the rotating assembly, but you will see the TQ fall just a little do the the reduced rotating mass. A lightweight flywheel is a give and take thing, especially with a N/A motor.

on my BP I had my 7lb flywheel balanced with the entire rotating assembly. They drilled out several grams here and there to make it near perfect. If I wanted I could rev the motor upwards to 9500rpms but my cams reach peak HP at 8400.

There is some formula out there that every pound off the rotating assembly is worth X amount of hp.. I don't remember off the top of my head I would have to look. IMO its ok if the ZE looses a few in TQ, at this point traction is not really its friend 1st through 3rd.

With your abilities I'd go straight to MS. It's perfectly reliable for DD once it's installed correctly. I'd just look for a good deal to turn up on PT on second hand MS. I made
203 HP
185 WHP
176 lbft
with hppwdns old ZE NA maps. Think I had it accidentally left on AFR correction/target table mode too which lost me a bit... but it was amazing considering the head gasket was half baked and completely died the next week (not related!).
AZ-3 1498cc Turbo! EVO 8 turbo and manifold, 5 stud swap, SSR Type C, DIYPNP seq Megasquirt
Mx-3 2.5 V6 Turbo 291 BHP 251 lbft @ 8psi - Retired due to rust and back at uni

Fair enough. I tend to think more in terms of generating power. A lighter flywheel will allow more power to get to the ground.
94' RS/GS/MS/CF Monster Turbo...coming soon.
93' GS SE, the Black Beast, the former love of my life...soon to be gutted and crushed.
94' GS, black on black, now in several small pieces...and one large crushed piece.
2007 Mazda3 GT Sport --- super fun
2004 Honda RC51 --- Lost forever to some theavin' bastard

Well maybe I should just keep my eyes out for a used unit then. I was looking into the E manage, but I guess there are several people I could get NA maps from MS wise ;)

With the MS, do you guys end up going to a MAP instead of using a VAF?
