the last time i had this happen to me i had a burnt valve. if it hasnt had a valve job in a while you may need one. also ive had the same problem when the vics, egr, and idle air bypass were all disconnected (they must be crazy asking for $600 ea). check linkages, hoses to each and do a compression test.

These pictures were taken when I did the headgasket a few months ago. The valves looked fine then, and I've done my best to keep the engine in good shape.

MAF/VAF These do the same job, but different ways on different years right? I thought there was a wiring issue with swapping these? I do have 2 airflow sensors. I've tried swapping them without any difference.

Ryan, in your parts pile posting; do you still have the speedo cable?

I see maybe 5 burnt valves...

See where they're only black on one little portion? Thats a bad sign.

S code is for the 1.6L's and the B8.

U code is for the BP.

I no longer have the speedo cable... I think. I can check for you, but it made noise in cold cold weather (-20C or more)

What are your compression numbers?

It would be cheaper to buy a new B6 with good compression than to get those valves repaired.

?Why would I buy a B6? I like my powerless BP...
I found a BP05 head for $225 after shipping. It's in Spokane, so it'd ship here quick.

The head is complete with valves, springs, cam and rockers installed. You will need to use your cam gear and cam seal.
Warranty
We offer a 6 month unlimited mile warranty.
I figure I could get a gasket set, rebuild the head, port and polish and then put it all back together. Maybe some performance stuff too.
BUT am I asking for problems if I hold off on rebuilding the bottom end until I have enough cash to do so?
I figure since I don't have a core on the head I can rebuild it while the old one is going out; and then buy a block and rebuild it... (but that might be months out)

And I still haven't done a compression test. Harbor freight has cheap testers right?
