your battery died before your alternator did. that is why it was working "overtime". get a good battery not some stock replacement and caps are 99.9% of the time unneeded. however.....your cap placement is mint. its not like the stock jack is worth anything.

Nawww neuman,
it was a good NEW 98$ fully charged batt.

The Alternator was working overtime because of the undercharged batt.
why was the batt undercharged?
Because of the audio system sucking the juice out of it, making the alt work harder.

The batt died because the alt was no longer functioning, therefore the alt went before the batt.

what battery cost you 98 dollars? not any kind of sealed one. honestly i have had the same battery for 6 years no issues. its an orbital spiral cell deep cycle. cost me 160. i have put it thru 3 cars and systems ranging from 200 watts all the way up to 3000 all on stock mazda bp alternators and i have had no dimming. proper wire sizing does alot and upgrading your factory wire from the battery to the alternator will help out also. its really worth it. but if your happy now and it seems to be working let it rock.

It's funny seeing how much room you have in the trunk. I kinda miss my room....

How does it sound compared to the subs facing back? My concern has always been that when you have a sub facing the rear it will sound better than a sub facing up.

Also, how does it sound when you compare it to your old setup? Your old one was similar to mine in the sense that we both had (though I still have) 2 12-inch subs.

ummm wheres the spare?

I like the presentation its finished extremely well and looks very professional but after loosing two systems I guess Ive become partial to the sound of my exhaust over the sound of the insurance company. Plus I have room for a full size spare!

Only time you need a cap is when your using 1000watts or more it will keep the power to the amp stable all a capacitor does is store voltage. In your case I don't think your amp will even come close to draining your battery so a cap in your system is unneeded.

My stereo has 4 Phoenix Gold amps 2 XS2500, XS6600 and XS2300 totaling 1800watts or so and I have a cap on my main sub amps line and it helps an bit with lights dimming and such.

what size of power wire do you have alternator and battery used?

I upgraded the alternator lead with a BMW alternator wire and works great, approx 2 gauge my amplifiers have PG 2 gauge runs as well. Sometimes a bigger wire size doesn't help, all you need to know is the resistance of that wire and what the draw could be.

I use to be a high end car audio installer, sometimes we would get customers that were complaining of battery drain, lights dimming DIC lights coming on and such. I figured it sometimes is not the size of the wire that you are using it is the resistance of the wire. This usually is totally based on the amps, speakers est. But in your case I would do a bench test to find the exact output and draw of the amplifier, to gauge the size of wire used. I also like soldering all connections to ensure their is no resistance (especially the ground wire this is the problem in most cases).

Next make sure your alternator is getting a good draw & recharging, if you own a good multimeter like Fluke you can check this. Also get a good deep cycle battery this helps as well, make sure all your amps are grounded separately (close to the amp), step by step you should eventually get the setup to work properly just be very thorough and everything will work out.

good job at not answering my question. you sound like a "high end car audio installer". keep preaching the BS and money spending antics.

Neuman

Original alternator and Orbital battery, and maybe this will be that last bit of information I think I'll ever give to you. You are the rudest person I think I have run into on this forum and very unappreciative so good luck with your endeavors. I don't think you'll get to far in life with a attitude like you have and calling people douches and such.

im sorry i asked a question and you started calling me illiterate. i was nice, you started the fire. i just poured gas on it. so don't act all innocent. i would take this to PM's but i want the laundry out where it needs to be public with these remarks.

everything you said in your posts is a mirror image of what i have said. so i don't see why i need your information. read all my posts in this thread before yours. then read your posts and see what i mean.

Sweet setup man! If you ever get the chance though, so listen to someone with a similar setup with a ported box.... You will love what you hear if the box is made right ;)

Also Barry, half the stuff you said was repeated, and if you were a professional installer I doubt you would be running a cap at all. Caps are band-aids for not having the proper power setup. If you actually did all the stuff you wrote you wouldn't need the cap or have any dimming. So seeing that you have a cap that is "helping with your dimming" seems like you are talking a lot but having the problems that you know how to fix... weird...

OP again, good job on the clean install. The cap and amp placements are awesome.

Grave digging time...

Any updates on how this sounds? Did debris become a problem somewhere down the road? I impatiently await your update ;)
