go buy a obd2 code reader from your local auto parts store. and plug it into your car.
it will give you a code. that code will tell you whats wrong with your car.

obd2 does not mean that it registers all problems, it is helpful in getting information from the ecm for instance my coolant temp sensor was seriously out of whack but it did not throw a code for it. obd2 is not a be all end all for doiagnosis.

No need to since i know what the problem is, the only issue now is deciding whether to get a stock oem part or convert it to a cold air intake?

go with a cai its cheaper and will last longer than replacing the stock crap, read this link http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=44545 it lists what you will need to get from ebay to make it work.
