What is this 15yr old law? Is it you cannot import a car from a different country unless its 15yr's or older?

ya, that's right.

I recently imported a 1992 300zx TT from japan. 1992 was the year of the cut off when I bought it. :)

Actually, you can import a 2008 JDM car, but it has to meet Canadian DOT spec which would mean changing lights, bumpers, moving the steering wheel...etc. The way the law is worded allows cars over 15 years old to be imported without conforming to the same spec.

In the past, lots of people import American new models into Canada because the required changes are minimal and the deals when the dollar was weak were really good. I think that this is less common these days.

Actually, right-hand drive vehicles are perfectly legal here in Ontario. The exact wording of the way states that you have to put a "Right hand drive" sticker that's 54mm in height in a visible location in the rear, or osmething very similar to that >_>

However, you have a better chance of being anally probed by aliens from Omicron Persei VIII than getting charged with that offence

I'm no expert on American Import regulations, but I'd say it would be very expensive. Cars cannot be legally imported without modification until 20 years after their date of manufacture...vs. 15 years in Canada.

That's just what I've heard.
