It appears that you may have had a faulty Oil Pressure switch which was frozen or stuck in the open (idiot light off) position. OR....... "A quart at best" is about all you need to still have enough oil pressure in the engine to not give you any warning light indication. Now , it appears that it may have been a faulty seal around the sensor and still enough pressure in the system to not give you any warning. Curious, if it "pissed out" you should have seen some signs or indication....like SMOKE when the oil hit some hot sources in the engine bay. You should have been one big ball of smoke to have lost all of your oil and you only catching it with only 1 quart left - must have really pissed out pretty fast. - Just an observation.

Would info for an aux oil pressure gauge come from the same sensor or does a different sensor need to be fitted.

Different sensor - the one thats there now is only a switch. The sensor will come with the gauge and you'll have to run a cable between the sensor and the gauge.

if you used the one that came on the KL-ZE, its not set up to be a light switch, its differe on the MX-6 and other cars cause they have a oil pressure gauge, not a on.off switch type or it was stuck on, i have had sending units stick open before
