And about the fresh styling. In overseas markets, Mazda sold the MX3 until 1998. thats a pretty long run for a single generation of a car, from 1991-1998....8 years

Whats funny about the comment about "it sounds like a porsche" is that Porsche actually helped in the development and creation of the K-series engine family, so yes, your car has a little bit of porsche in it

haha, I know exactly what you mean.Originally posted by SE-Man:
Yea, when i was at the races this weekend the anouncer stated while I was on the Line "I don't really know what kinda car that is, but I think its a mazda" then before I start he stated "Ladies and Gentalmen, for those that don't know, that car is actually a mazda MX-3, we don't see those too often"
hehee
when I took my car to the track last year, the announcer was like "now there's a Nova Super Sport pulling up to the line, and a new Honda CRX"
I was lmao.

HAH! Ya, I've had two adults ask me what year Porsche I had...the only other misidentities were a Civic HB and "Hey is that the new VW"...yea I don't get that one either.
SE-MAN...LOL great story!
MikeUK...MX3 a smaller verision of the MX5..LOL..omgah that would be site to see...that would be like a "SMART" made by Mazda...then maybe a 1.8v6 would make sense!!!!!

Re: MX3's are unrecognizable to lots of ppl
There's a guy that i was talking to on another board recently where he called my Mx-3 a cheep Porsche 928 rip-off. He's from eurupe so i can see why he would think that way, but i'm lucky if i see a handfull of porsches during the summer, but i see what me means:

Re: MX3's are unrecognizable to lots of ppl
I've been asked if my car's a Porche also. It's also been called an Integra, Civic, MX-6, Eclipse, even a Geo Storm. I also have a traffic ticket where the cop listed my car as a 1992 Mazda RX-7. It doesn't help that i took off all my emblems.

Re: MX3's are unrecognizable to lots of ppl
Haha I haven't had too much said about mine. Most people have no idea what it is. In addition, I don't drive mine too much as of lately since my timing belt is having "issues" but otherwise, I've had only a couple people look at it strangely... "What the heck is that?!"
I don't recall anyone calling it a porshe or any other type of car but that's probably cuz of the huge dent on the passenger door thanks to the prior owner... yet to be fixed... *sigh*
The only time I'll find someone who knows what type an MX-3 is when I run into someone who owns one. I live near Ft. Gordon and 3 of the 5 functioning MX-3s (this includes my own) I've ever seen in Augusta belong to military guys from places like Washington and Michigan.

Re: MX3's are unrecognizable to lots of ppl
I'm starting to remember all the other times that my car has been mistaken for other cars: integra, eclipse, crx, porsche. All of which I can sorta understand, from certain angles the mx3 does look like all of those cars.
Re: MX3's are unrecognizable to lots of ppl
ive heard Del Sol a few times... that kinda ticked me off

*note i will not be doing the rx7 hatch conversion, id rather get a BP*

Is it actually true that Porsche had a hand in developing that line of engines? any links or anything?
