I've spent a bunch of time searching on here and gathering from a variety of threads. I tried to summarize a bunch of info, so don't be afraid to keep looking around.

I have my BP motor apart right now... I can honestly say that it reallllly truly is begging for a turbo.

Some observations of my own to further elaborate on 'why turbo'.. just from the BP I have apart right now...

There look to be 6 crankcase breathers.... 4 along the one side, 2 on the other side that looked questionable where they go down into block, but looking at they head they right through... so I'd assume 6. (A lot of NA motors have 2 or so. Supra 2JZ-GTE has 8...)

Combustion chamber... nice and smooth. Some casting flaws in here that aren't the best I've seen from a manufacturer, but pretty minor for the most part and can be mostly smoothed out.

Behind the valves where the valve seats and casting of head meet there is usually a noticeable varience between casting here. The BP engine has had this area machined out at the factory after casting to remove flow restriction (definite bonus).

Intake valves have a nice back cut on them.

Intake ports are fairly nicely done as well. Reasonably good steep angle, nicely shaped port.

Exhaust ports... nice enough and better than a lot of junk out there.

Both intake/exhaust valves are of a decent size.

The block is closed deck. Most Honda stuff is actually open around the sleeves for the cylinders. Hence why you see them talk so much about 'posting' or block gaurds and blablabla with too much boost.

stock head gasket looked to be multilayer steel on mine.

exhaust manifold gasket was also some kind of MLS.

The bottom end, I haven't taken apart yet, but from pictures I've seen (only 9:0:1 compression ratio stock, oil squirters on pistons)

And on it goes.... there are a lot of motors out there that can handle a little boost and be ok. These motors were meant to handle good boost levels, and do it well. It's a shame to see them putting out 130hp and piddling their lives away without ever showing the owner 'fun'.

alright ive called around to some junkyards, got two prices, 450 and 500. sounds resonable seeing as ive seen liek 900 on the net, and thats american. i dont mind fixing it up a little eaither so thats good i suppose. they said they were in good shape.

oh yes, i decided on getting the BP-ZE. plan on turboing it up later.

my friend who is pretty much modding out a 87 or 84 mustang was tellign me about how he is gunna be buying a "crate engine" for his stang. apparently it has relitivly high horsepower.

i was telling him about my plan for this engine swap, and he said i should get a "crate engine" instead. now what i was wondering is if there is anything liek this around for a mx-3 or anything that would fit an mx-3.

I'm back from my trip, and trying to catch up...

I got my BP from a junkyard for $150 plus $185 for shipping to my home. I was almost sorry I tore the engine down. It was in terrific shape.

Don't forget to look for Escort GT as well as Protege.

The junkyard I used has a policy of lowering the price over time until it sells. Mine was on the lot for 15 months and that is why it was only $150. It also had no distributor, so ask about that and injectors etc. Make sure you know what is missing if anything.

did you end up installing it? if so, didd you do it yourself? im trying to figure out how im gunna do this, probably gunna have to rent or borrow an engine hoist if there isnt anytihng to complicated to do to install it.

what year does the focus have to be for the egine to fit the mx3?

and i think the protege has the be 1990-1993(think i read this somewhere?) correct me if thats wrong

also, i think i read that ford probe engines also fit, if so which years.

and i read on these boards that kia sephia or however its spelled also fits, and again im wondering what years this has to be.

if i missed any models you can pull a BP outta, please let me know which ones i missed, id appericate it greatly.

and last but not least, does the KLZE engine fit into a 93 rs? if so, what makes can i find this in?

I'm in the process of reassembling my BP. I'm doing a complete rebuild. Reassembly is not yet done, and I'm missing some parts still. I'm hoping to pull out the old engine starting Oct 30 since my wife won't need her car the following week.
