I had that problem, I cant remember the part name, but it wa s avalve that controls the idle according to he temp of the engine, anyways when my car warmed up it started going up and down when the car was in nuetral. When I bought my car it was unplugged so i didnt know the prob was there, then i took it to the shop and they plugged it and said it would make my car to easy to stall, which i guess was true kinda. Anyways parts and labour it cost me 900CND!! If i knew about this board at the time i probably coulda got it for 50 off someone here.

992mmx: Did you get the repairs done? Did they fix your problem? I'm not harping on you, I'd just like to get more info so we all know. It would be nice to add a list of symtoms and known fixes to the FAQ board. I mean really if you do a search, we seem to all have this idle problem.
Sureshiit, Sounds like the air bypass. The second hose is a coolent hose that warms the throttle body and as the temp goes up the idle speed goes down.
Autozone has the part available, wells TV214, O.E.M. #B551-20660. $229. Doesn't look to hard to put in.
Tested my Air Bypass Valve with the ohm meter. I got 11.3ohms which is within the rating. Maybe the thing is clogged or busted up on the inside.
I'll take photos and try cleaning it this weekend.

Jspecmazdaman, check out the online manual page F1-162. This will give you an idea about how to check it. I have the chilton manual for the car if you want I'll type out the directions to test your TPS sensor.
-Cybin

That would rock if you guys can solve this problem, seems to be one of the very few problems that our engines are plagued by. Maybe we could get a group buy of sensors put together. :D

I am still not sure where to find this air by pass valve? Do we have to unscrew the throttle body to get to it?

From what I've read, its supposed to be under the throttle body somewhere around there. I looked at the online manual and I'm about to go look for it and unplug it in a few mins.

I just got a 1994 MX3 4 cylinder for my 17th birthday. It has 90k miles on it and I too seem to have an idle problem. Not at stop lights, however. Only around 50 to 60 mph. I took it to a mechanic, but he can't seem to find anything wrong with it. He did replace a faulty spark plug that got rid of the stop light idle problem, and the air bybass valve was replaced. What else can I try?? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Okay heres where to look on the DOHC, I'm not sure if it is the same on the SOHC. Under the throttle body there is a small pipe about an inch in diameter with a hose attached to it. Look to the left of this pipe and you will see a black cylinder with a white plug on the side of it. If you unplug the white plug you will cut power to the Idle Air Control Valve and can then test if the idle problem still exists.

dunno if anyone said anything about this but, that lil valve you unplug is your air by-pass valve. guess what, it works slightly, but watch ur rpm and also, wathc your gas milage go from good, to the worst. i lost 8mpg on the highway. im still trying to find a way to fix it. larger ground wire helps. heres my thought, most of us have systems right...well get a power cap, or two, and well in summer i might try running a second battery in the hole for the spare tire(it will be removed) for the battery...and run my system off that and moniter its volts to see how well its runnin....now, im assumming thats the majory problem. the car is equipped well to handle the neons dystems etc we toss on it. so, im running my system, minus the head unit and neons ona 2nd battery. ill let everyone know if that help the problem, pray that it does!! good luck to all on their mx-3....http://members.cardomain.com/titanmx3 my ride...check it out and post replys everyone!!!!
i got a 90 pgt...but wish it was a mx-3 bp-t!
