well when i talked to derrick he said that the tranny from the protege was needed. and for putting the awd tranny in it will fit perfectly from what he said. im not worried about awd i just want some power in my car. he said that they put that engine into a protege (since its a jap spec engine) and when they ran it it ran a mid 14 with street tires but when they put slicks on the first run back out they ran a 13.9 the reason was because they were breakin the street tires loose in third. i think that would be some sweet needed power for the very underpowered mx-3. i also found a place here in the dallas ft worth area that would put it in if anyone was needing that info. he quoted me about $600, but i figure around $600-$1000.
sorry its so long
jerome cline :D

the awd tranny is not worth putting in because of the extra weight and you'll only be using the fwd portion. the only benifit is the lsd.

I just asked the question about the tranny on the mazda owner yahoo group and the "G" serie from 90-94 protege LX or ford escort GT 9?-96 seems to be the best choice for that engine.
Oh, and by the way cre8v mx3 , I rated you 5 star since you help me alot.
:D

hey teltic...you want awd? there's two things that you need before you even start.
#1. have a lot of money
#2. have the ability to give it away easily
for awd you'd have to do a lot of fabrication to the undercarraige of the car...like get a new one. there's nowhere for the differential to mount to in the rear end. then you'll have to find room for the rear driveshaft. but hey...where there's a will...err...money...there's a way.
and brainless...preciate that. right back at ya.

And how about the ECU?
keep the one I have? I don't think so
Buy a GTX or GTR ecu? maybe
How about aftermarket ecu for GTX engine?

adelaide jap dismantlers has the whole setup...engine, ecu, harness, and all sensors for a pretty good deal. it just depends on where you're at and how close you are to a port. but if you just buy the ecu and harness they could probably air frieght it to you. the whole setup for the "bpd"(as it is put on a gtr website) is 1899 shipped. but no matter what, you'll be better off with the ecu and harness.
did you find out what clutch to get? i mean, if you get the protege/escort gt tranny...can you still use your factory clutch assymbly and get a mx-3 upgrade or will you have to get the assymbly and upgrade for the new tranny? i think everything mounts up right but i'm not sure.

As for the clutch, I was planning to buy a race clutch for the transmission I choose.
Is there any upgrade ECU for GTX or GTR engine somewhere?

Oh! and what do you think would be better for the exhaust: 2.5" or 3.0" or else?

i talked to derrick at cork sport and he told me to get the protege tranny becuase you need a bigger flywheel so you can get a better clutch...so you need the tranny, flywheel, and driveshafts and the clutch for the tranny you get(like you had posted)
about the ecu...you won't need to get an upgraded ecu..just the one for the motor you get. unless you plan on doing a lot of stuff to it when you install it, you'll be fine.
as for the the exhaust..2.5in is fine for now unless you put in a bigger turbo.
by the way, which one are you getting? the gtr or gtx?

I was thinking the GTX (cheaper) unless I can find a GTR for a good price.
