My '92 rs uses between 1/2 to 1 quart of Castrol GTX between oil changes every 3K to 4K miles. Some oils have worse evaporative(?spell) properties than others. Under warmer or extreem conditions some of the oil will turn to a vapor and get sucked up into the PCV system and get burned with no noticable signs of burning oil. Try using different brands to see if their is a change in usage. I also prefer to use 10W-30 in winter and straight 30W in summer since my car currently has more than 233K miles on it to date.
