Im New here - Engine Mod questions
Hi all! This is my 1st post here! I recently purchased my green MX3 1994. It has a stock DOCH 16V 4 cyl. (Engine Family - RTK 1.6V JGFEA) engine in it. I am trying to find out more about my engine and what I can do to Modify it without too much hassle. My 1st question is what liter is it? 1.6 or 1.8? I do not have the car manual yet to find out.
I am also thinking of custom vinyling it with some orange but am now thinking maybe I should wait to get a body kit on it. There are a few small unnoticable dents that I'd like to distract with a decal design. What would you recommend?
Any input would be great.

Re: Im New here - Engine Mod questions
Thanks kuruption1983. I just came to realize with a little more searching the boards that I must have an RS 1.6L engine. It's a fun 5-Speed nonetheless. I don't plan on swapping the engine at this time with 88k miles on it. For now I'm more interested in a body kit and a few mods that I can do for it.

Re: Im New here - Engine Mod questions
Wecome to the UBB. Since you obviosuly know about the search feature, try reading the FAQ. The appearance faq has links to info on where to get bodykits for your car.
Be aware thee are currently group buys going on, you may want to check out that section of thie UBB as well.
I myself have a 4cl (RS) and a 6cl (GS).
As far as mods to make the 1.6L faster, its not really worth it. For the price of upgrading, you can swap out a better engine.
This board has been around for 2 years now, and believe me almost everything has been asked before. Take advantage of the search feature, its a good help. The FAQ aree also a great resource, if its not there, someone may know.
Re: Im New here - Engine Mod questions
Thank-you Custommx3! That's great news about the BPT being a cheaper way to go I think. Maybe in a year or so I will upgrade the engine....I dunno but I will have to wait and see. I think I'd like to do cosmetic upgrades before worrying about the engine. Does that sound like a good plan?

Re: Im New here - Engine Mod questions
I would say yes. I purchased an RS, just as a car. I never really thought I'd start modding it, untill I found the mx-3 email list (this was years before this website came along.) I started on body mods, years later realized how just slow my car was. I later purchased a GS, which I have turned into a project car. If your thinking about speed anytime soon, and your car is a manual, Id suggest the b6T swap. Its the cheapest of the swaps, and from what Im told its not difficult to do. The BPT is a 1.8l engine and will not bolt up to your tranny. It requires a tranny swap as well. If your car is an auto, its cheaper to sell your RS and buy either a GS or an RS with a stick. Thats what most people have done.
As far as bodykits go, your cheapest route is to get in on a group buy. We have several distributors on the list, Oscar is the distributor in Canada for Pakfeifer, and Tiffany is the US distributor. They will be able to post in the vendor forum soon, so check that regularly. They will post items they have for sale as well as many others once we get the ball rolling on that project.
Re: Im New here - Engine Mod questions
Thanks again! Yeah I have the manual Stick. So I would need the B6T and not the BPT? What's the difference there?

Re: Im New here - Engine Mod questions
the BPT is a 1.8L the b6t is a 1.6L.
Ever seen an Escort or MEcury tracer engine? thats a 1.8L Bp motor minus the turbo and some other changes, but basically the same base engine. It wont mount to your tranny, I believe the 1.6L will. Check the FAQ, should have a better desription of it.
4cl FAQ
REad the B6T faq, you'll understand better from someone who has actually done this swap.
Re: Im New here - Engine Mod questions
Why would I want to swap in a B6T (1.6l) from my 1.6l (B6ZE ?) instead of getting a custom turbo put in?
*My last car was a 94 Mecury Tracer...I had no idea I even owned a BP engine before I got rid of it and got my 94 MX-3 RS Stick.

Fast imports only come on two wheels.
