Swapping MAFS
Swapping MAFS
I just installed a cold air intake on my car and when i did i ****ed with and broke my MAFS. I have read in a few places that it can be swapped with one from an RX-7. What year is right for my car and will I be able to swap it directly or will I have to change or modify wiring. I have a 92 MX-3 1.6 SOHC. I appreciate the help.
Re: Swapping MAFS
its a 2nd gen RX-7 and i think the year is 88-89 i am not sure but thats what i think it is, but anyways i heard the bigger MAF wont help till really high RPMs and i know as well as you wiht our 1.6 SOHC we can reach that high unless you have alot done, well you should doubble check on the years but i know its 2nd Gen

Re: Swapping MAFS
I had one on my BP for a month to see how it was.
It kinda killed my pickup in the low end torque. But After 4500 and up it had great pull!! So I could imagine how a turbo'd SOHC or a BP would love this MAF!!!!!
When I was running it, it ran normal but as I said, when I hit the pedal to the floor - felt like I all of a sudden was running super lean!! car bogged down, but only for a moment. Then it ran normal till about 4500, then woosh - like my engine finally got up to speed.
I went from a 350-400Km per 30Litres gas mileage (something like 30miles/gallon or whatever) down to 175-250km per 30Litres. Crazy!! but it was a lot of fun!!!!
gonna keep this maf for my dream of a turbo project!!!!

All of the problems i had with those issues were fixable with tuneing the MAF. For me the only real thing i noticed was that the motor did not fall on its face after 6500 rpm.Originally posted by Typhoonk:

On the protege forum that have talked about how tuneing is everything. As long as you tune it good you will notice no difference down low but notice around 5-10 hp above 6500.Originally posted by torpedan:

Re: Swapping MAFS
What do I have to do to tune the new MAFS from the RX-7 once I install it?
