b6t hp?

Post by projectmx »

out of curiosity how much hp does the b6t have? and if the 1.6 from our car had better cams / gears / pistons / crank would that be able to produce hp any better when turbo was added?

from what ive heard the jspec b6t is about 150 but yes the stock 1.6 dohc motor you have should have higher compression so if you added the turbo and manifold and everything you need and ran the same amount of boost you should make more hp. instead of the 132 you should be close to 140-150hp but again thats not at the wheels. plus you need to make sure the motor you have is in good condition.

I dont believe thats true.

a BP is the 1.8L Turbo and it has 180,or 210 depending on model. Never heard of any but one model of the BPt.

well im just going by what i believe it was the guy that did the b6t swap (maldo) i could have sworn someone said the jspec b6t made about 150. as i dont have the b6t im not sure but id say call corksport and see if theres a diff but if not the usa b6t is already here so itd be cheaper and then just get it rebuilt.

It just seems that if i have a low milage strong dohc 1.6 in my mx-3 already it would be better to simply add cams and cam gears aluminum flywheel and better clutch then either turbo or do a wet nitrous kit and i'd have just as much hp or more than with a b6t. All i really want is 150 - 200 hp and that seems very easily attainable with my current engine instead of swapping a b6t or a bpt into it.

its very easy to get out of your motor. the thing with our motor vs the b6t is the head ports are way bigger, so with the same boost it makes a considerable amount more than the b6t like 140 to 150 ish and thats at about 7 psi. now all you have to do is up the boost and a few other things like put bigger exaust and port match manifolds and have a good fuel system and up the boost to about 12 to 13 psi and 200 hp is easly attained. now if you are planning on putting cams in a turbo engine the best cam is one with alot of lift rather than duration, cause the higher the lift the more power is made in the high end. and for turbo thats what you want.
now if you want to make your block stronger put the b6t rods in there a litte thicker and can take more abuse.

if you plan on going N/A with NOS then i would look into a set of TODA racing cams they have some nice ones that will do what you want but a little pricey. if you go with there 304 duration and 9.mm lift with aluminum flywheel and and a direct port NOS kit( which is ten times better than a wet or dry kit and costs about the same) you could see 150 to the wheels or maybe even more. just rember with the cams any more than a 9.2mm lift and you need better valve springs.
