Thinking about buying..

Post by Sol »

I was looking at several used cars at a local used Mazda dealer and I came across a used 1993 MX-3. I thought it was a nice looking car, thought the color wasn't what I wanted. And I started thinking "This has to be my car." Unfourtunately, they were closed and I couldn't ask anyone questions. It only had about 110, 000 miles on it but a few scratches The asking price for it is $4,500 and I was curious if that was a good price. I mean, if it runs crappy I'll get some work done to it and I know that I'm going to get a new color (that white doesn't suit me). What do you think?
[ July 24, 2002: Message edited by: Sol ]

The guy says it's got 128000 miles and that it 'runs great.' I figure I'll call him back Saturday and ask if I can come take a look at it.

OK, I just found out that air bags aren't available. It's not really that important but my parents wouldn't be real happy if I got a car with no airbags. How much would it likely to be in the cost range of to get an airbag installed on the drivers side?.
[ July 25, 2002: Message edited by: Sol ]

They changed it at that time, adding airbags and a changed the interior. :)
Also when asking for prices, PLEASE state what kind of engine the car have. There is a huge difference from a 1.6 to a car that have the 2.5L engine :)

MX-3's never had a 2.5L engine stock. There are 3 engines available: 1.6L SOCH with 88hp in all base (RS) models from '92-'93, 1.6L DOCH with 105hp in all RS models from '94 up, and a 1.8L V6 with 128hp in all GS models. If you are planning on eventually doing an engine swap it doesn't matter so much which car you get because there are powerful swaps available for all cars, but if you plan on leaving it stock at least get a car with a DOHC but the V6 is the best if you can find one. Hope this helps!

That is wrong, if you have a 96' it is a DOHC I have the same year that is what they used that year. I think that they only used the SOHC in the 92-93' 4's. I hope this helps also if you have a SOHC it only has 88 hp as for the DOHC it has 105 hp both weak but they have potential. Good luck ....Ry-Bo
