Has anyone had success clear coating head lights

Post by Daninski »

My front projector (spyder) head lights got the top third scratched to hell from a poly tarp that I mistakenly covered the car with. I plan to do a good sand and polish to bring them back however. Has anyone had experience clear coating their head lights and what was your results like? Thanks

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

You can make headlights look good as new. I've re-cleared my Sunfire's lights. I haven't needed to clearcoat the mx's yet (only buffed and waxed those lights). Just make sure you use a good quality clearcoat. I think there are even 2 part clears in spray cans nowadays. Sanding with either 1000 grit or 800 seems to work best. Maybe paint expert mitmaks will chime in and offer expert level tips.

You can clear coat your lights. Make sure to clean them well before and wetsand with 600-800 to make sure clear adheres well. You can shoot 2-3 coats of clear coat and then wetsand and buff clear for that super glossy look.
Most clears have UV inhibitors so your lights will not yellow out for long time.

Yes I was going to prep them well before hand. The guy I know will probably do them for free but I'll shoot him $20 for his time. Plastic lens sucks, never had issues with glass.
