Replacing power window switch with two 6-Pin DPDT switches

Post by Silver »

I have posted before and really still don't know which wire goes where but I did find out that I needed a 6-Pin DPDT switch to make this work. I have looked at other posts but none that I have found tell you which color wire goes where on the DPDT. I have identified the black wire on the lower left as the power but still, I don't know where it goes on the new switch. I am including two .jpg's to better illustrate what I am trying to do. In the picture. from left to right on the bottom there are the following wires:

black, green with 2 white stripes, pink with 2 white stripes.

On the top, from left to right there are the following:

green with 2 black stripes, pink (looks red in picture) with 2 blue stripes, black with 2 pink stripes.

There is an extra blue wire connected at the upper right that I don't have on mine.

If someone would be kind enouth to a novice like me to tell me where everything goes, that would be great. I have been riding around without the ability to roll the windows down. Can't even go through the drive-thru at Walgreens!

Thanks in advance for your help. I just discovered that I can't upload the images that I have so I hope my description helps.

Are you using these switches? (I read you other post)

If so, they're the wrong kind. The ones you need are Dual Pole Dual Throw or "DPDT"

The other active word to search for will be "Momentary".
If they're not momentary, you will burn out your window motors because they won't turn off when you take your finger off the button.

The switches you linked in your other post have 5 pins, they are the wrong ones. The switches you are looking for have 6 pins, are DPDT and are Momentary.

I have put a link to the correct style switch up top.

When I did my switches, I used a set out of a 2000 or so Protege. They're more sturdy than the ones we had in our cars.

Yeah, those are the right ones. My first post has the information for wiring them in.

There is a slight difference between the 92-93 and 94+ switches. My post is for the 92-93 style switches. There's only a slight difference but let me know if you get stuck.

Just so I know what I am doing, where is your first post? Because mine is a '95. I thought your block diagram was super.

I've never done anything with the 94+ setup, but I think it should work as my block diagram shows.

I asked about a blue/black wire in that, but it shouldn't be needed for your setup.

So, I just ignore the Blk/Red wire that you had questioned?

Yes, ignore the Black wire with the Red stripe.
The Red wire with the Black stripe is still needed though.

Hey Demonic1:

I have purchased most of the wire etc that I am going to need but I thought I would let you know that the Blk/Rd wire on the bottom left is actually your 12v for the '95 series. It's the only thing that makes sense. I will find out very soon as I will be working on it over the weekend. My question for you is what tool did you use to make two holes in the console for left and right? Did you use a dremel, and if so what kind? This is the first time that I have jumped into anything like this. Any information will be much appreciated! BTW, I bought this car brand new and I love it. Got hit on my Harley in 2007 and am disabled now. Can't afford a new car. Don't want one. Like I said, I love it!!!!

Thanks,

I used late 90s Mazda switches that were similar in design to the ones already in place. I only had to do a small bit of modification to the stock housing and then it fit into the door like it belonged there.

I'll have to hunt down the pictures I took (or take more) and show how it fits.

Wow, so I don't even need to make it fit into the console? Incredible. Let me know.
