Only thing I'd be worried about on a rear mount turbo is the cat shitting it's innards into the turbo itself.. Since your buddy is a welder you should just have a flange welded to a jy exhaust mani.. Having the turbo in a more traditional place is peace of mind.. Even if the kit was free it would suck to get only a few months out of it before you're rebuilding and re-balancing the turbo..
