Hello a quick question.
I have a Belt kit +water pump changed in 2008 , new .
Poor mileage so far , so in that regard i 'm safe.
But "about years" , i wonder if years count also in changing belt kit.
6 years now .Should Belt Kit , or simply belt only be changed maybe ?
what happen if Belt breaks?
I did read on the net that on mx-3 is not so dangerous as in the other cars
,as mx-3 has "Not-interference "motor system and car should stop , but engine wont go broken /valves dont get damaged etc ..is it true????
Cam Belt( kit or belt) , just Mileage or Years count too?

10yrs / 90K. I do mine every 60k (well would do if I could keep a KL running that long) just do to lack of trust in the tensioners. And if it does break your just out your time, no major damage.

I would remove timing belt and inspect all the idlers, tensioner and replace water pump.

10 years? REally? that's a lot , nice tyo know other could also confirm that?
and did happen to you you break belt a,nd it was ok after replacing it?
Edit:previous owner changed belt after 13 years , due to poor mleage (told me today by mail) .

maitmaks,
Uhm , about replacing water pump only that is not something i would do .
Generally tensioners/belt / water pump got changed at the same time , due to the fact they last aprox same mileage.
The talk ( i think ,at leat )
is about Belt ,the element that could be affected by age/years and not only mileage
(in the 6-10 year period i mean) .
i dont think that an "unused" waterpump would fail cause has 6 years, usually
they get noisy or anyway you should notice raising temperature.
And when you remove belt , inspect etc (assuming you have to pay someone to do it , like me ),
then it would be more economical opratical in fact to change all the stuff at once.
