Paint Peeling

Have 93 MX-3. Recently roof paint has started peeling off, exposing the grey primer. Have noticed the same on other MX-3's driving around the city (Houston, TX). Is this a hot climate problem or do others have the same issue. Given another six months my car will be two-tone.
