Yet another attempted break in...

Post by wytbishop »

So...I've been away on holiday this past week. Sunny Mexico. So I go to start my car last night and it's deader than hell. That's wierd because it's a sealed AGM battery...they don't freeze.

This evening I went to boost it and found that the driver's side door has been violated. They must have tried to pry the door open and the dome light came on or something. Anyway now the battery won't charge because it sat discharged in the cold for several days I suspect.

IF Wal Mart doesn't warranty it i'm going to burn the store down.

Do you not have an alarm on your car? I want to add a nerve agent to my car alarm but I was told it could be a liability issue. Apparently vaporizing skydrol http://www.skydrol.com/pages/ (TM) could get me sued. Hey it only causes respiratory arrest. How cool is that.

Yes it was the Purple Beast...some of us only have one MX-3 Ryan...hard to believe I know. The door cylinder seems to be the only damage...and it probably cost me a battery. I'm looking for the reciept now.

I have wanted to install some sort of large slicing weapon that would remove the leg of a prospective thief...but yeah... apparently you're not supposed to cut criminals' legs off or something.

Sorry, I didn't remember if you had a DD or winter beater or something...

Still got some paint left over from the bumper to fix the door if needs be?

I don't have a spare set of door cyls at the moment, or I'd ship 'em over... I got some for a Probe though...

Have you looked into the laws of self-defense? If you can call it that... you know, setting up IR tracking paintball security gun, etc... I'd be curious.

Yeah I was considering leaving it in the underground parking at work but decided I didn't need to...bad call. Will not make that mistake again.

I think I have a set of lock cylinders that I saved from a JY car last year. $100 to get them recoded. The door doesn't appear to be damaged, but I was planning on replacing it this spring anyway due to rust. I already have a door and all the supplies to paint it and the sunroof panel I got.

The list gets longer. I think in the spring I'm going to have to find a little beater DD and take the Beast apart. There's so much to do now that I might as well do a minor restoration.

I find alarms to be more or less useless. My bike was stolen from the same parking stall in the middle of a summer day while alarmed. We were away for the week when this latest attempt was made on my car...no one cares if an alarm is going off.

That sucks man. Glad they didn't get it though. We get alot of car theft here. Joyriders steal them, drive them to death, then burn them out whilst off their face on glue. The best thing people over here have found is to use a quality steering lock. No guarantees though, but from what happens here, alarms are useless really.

As far as battery I'd throw this float charger on it and it should bring it back to life

Well I got it to work and back home today on a boost or two and it seems to have taken a charge. I'm going to reserve my judgement until tomorrow, but it might be ok.

Simple theft deterrent is an electric fence kit wired to the body, touch the car poof nice little shock to smarten them up. You can set it for around 8000 volts or so enough to give them a nasty surprise. If that does not float your boat then install a battery disconnect for the negative terminal, use one that requires a key and hide it good so they are stumped when it will not turn over at all.

I'm thinking 2" steel bar that shatters your tibia. Both doors have now been mangled. They didn't get in either time but I want some serious pain and suffering in return for my destroyed door locks.
