ALL MX3 AERO PARTS!!!!

Post by kulluminati777 »

take into consideration if u will these after market options for the mx3

the gs front lip, the kouki front lip, the mazdaspeed front bumper, side skirts, and wing the wrap around spoiler the mini sides, the 92-93 gs wing.that visor spoiler/shade or what ever it is on the hatch people have oh and the rare raised spoiler.

now i know body kits were only created because companys hate on a certain cars so they make these ridiculous body parts that look like crap (its a conspiracy i know it) so theres really no aerodynamic improvement but now for those other parts listed above and any other mazda aero stuff i forgot, does any of it have a beneficial thing to it or is it ALL just looks? you would think at least the mazdaspeed stuff helps aerodynamics a little right?

No, don't ever tell anyone you put any part of your body kit on for aero mods. Unless you have a decent understanding of fluid dynamics and can back it up with hand calculations, or at the very least modeling software.

Aerodynamics are super complicated. The first and best mod we could do would be a proper diffuser.

He's just enthusiastic!

And I don't believe any ms-3s are really going to be boing a speed where aerodynamics are going to have a huge effect. Maybe if your running 10 sec quarter miles or 400 hp track cars. Seems like just aesthetics here.
Took the bp+t out of the mx and swapped it into a 95 escort wagon. ;)

Several people have mentioned increased fuel mileage with side skirts. That implies less air resistance, although nobody has documented it... just food for thought.

Well first I will say that I really appreciate you doing what you are doing for our country. Much respect!

I'll give you the best answer I have (just try and tone down the caps/exclamation marks :freak: ):

Based on what I see in my mazdspeed catalogs the MS aero parts were tested in a wind tunnel. I would assume that they were testing things related to aerodynamics. I'm not sure about the particulars though...

this is very possible, hopefully someone can back me up on this as i can't seem to find the info i'm about to say.
In the past formula cars at some point had these steel....plates that either float very low or dragged on the ground, by float i mean it could move up and down according to the track.
At some point this was banned but i don't recall why (destroyed the track?)
Anyways, i'm just trying to say that having less clearance on the side of your car would promote aerodynamics, which would be why formula car's did this in the past.

Found it! it was banned due to corning speeds getting too fast amongst other things

I'm in engineering, part of the Formula SAE team, and aero is a clear part of that.. although personally I'm not.

The thing close to the ground is called a diffuser, it takes the positive pressure from the front of the vehicle and converts it into down force...

Nothing on the car can touch the track because its a hazard, but you can get as close as you want. If a official hears it scraping though, instant disqualification.

Size skirts will help with aero a little as there is a smother transition over the wheels. People on here have even put mudflaps on backwards in front of the tires to help with milage. Spinning stuff like wheels really mess with aerodynamics.
