E-brake (help)

Post by Whokid »

I did the brakes fine, now to get the e-brake working. I tighten the bolt but its not tight enough. Is there a guide to installing a new e brake lever cable? Cause I think it has been streched to much.

The cable is likely broken. Crawl underneath your car and undo the splash/heat sheild in that area.

So i replaced the front breaking cable and still no ebrake. I noticed tho i get alittle stop like if im on a 15 degree slope it wont go but i can push it and it starts to move. So yeah my ebrake dosent work. How do i tighten the back breaking cable. Like before my spring in the back was sticking it wasnt retturning. I sparyed some wd40 on it and its working I think. any tips am i suppose to use the manual adjustment gear? shown http://www.mx-3.com/manuals/showimg.php ... _P-034.gif" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I cant take this in to get safety without it of course.

I also wasnt able to get a temporary travel permit in ontario canada because on my permit it says PAS-UNF ( unfit)
how do i get around this without paying for a towtruck.
This car was on the road before I bought it. And the lady at MTO asked me if I was going to throw it on the road right away said No cause i dont have enough money right now to do the saftey and e test. Any loops i can do to get a 10 day permit?

By the sounds of the the rear calipers are seized. That little arm that the Ebrake pulls needs more than some WD40 to get it moving again. Try getting someone to help you, to pull the brake, and let it go, and you force the arm back, and repeat until its smooth, using WD40 along the way.

Does the ebrake crank straight up? IT should only have to go around half of its total range to full engage the brake.
Are the pads/rotors unusually worn?

Hey ryan thanks for the reply, cause im trying to save some extra bucks. I took the car into a mechanic to get it saftey and he told me that my calipers were seized and that i needed knew ones (go figure) He also told me the quater panels from the inside need to be filled. Told me for the new calipers and the fixing it would cost me $520. Sounded like a rip off. I think the brakes are fine, so im wondering if i use wd40 or penerating oil that should fix it? I cant really afford to get new calipers atm. The partsource people told me it would be $300 for 2 calipers. Do you think if need be going to the wreckers to get calipers. That be the cheapest way correct? Or would i be wasting my time?

Thanks for the upcoming replys

I rebuilt the front calipers on my car with a $3 kit from autozone. Use an air compressor into where the brake line connects to remove the piston, as long as the bore and piston are good you should be able to just replace all of the seals and put it back together. and be good, I just took a good brake parts cleaner to all of it before I put it back together. You may need a strong compressor though, mine took about 50psi to break loose. and have an old pad and a rag to catch the piston so it doesn't go flying across the garage.
