Keypad Entry on my Mx3

Post by MrMazda92 »

Hey guys, since I stopped driving my Mountaineer every day, I've started to miss the keypad entry. It was pretty nice not having to worry about locking my keys in the car, which I do all too often.

Has anybody tried to install a keypad on their car?

I do have "power locks", but I am aware that I would have to put in a motor for the DS door lock.

I guess the 2 questions I would like answered are:

1) What would be the proper method for powering the keypad?

2) Where would good placement be? My girlfriend's Ford Taurus has it on the DS door handle, but a 5 button keypad would be pretty cramped on the MX3 handle. I don't mind having to fit it all, just wondering if anybody has any creative ideas.

Thanks!

Bump + Update

Bought an actuator for the DS lock, tomorrow I'll snag another DS exterior door handle + a keypad from a ford/mercury for the test.

the only thing id think youd have problems with is getting it to fit into the door handle... id think youd be better off cutting a hole in the door and setting the pinpad flush with the metal just above the handle.

I thought so too, but I measured it up against my Mountaineer one, it was VERY close(The keypad has room to be trimmed slightly)

If that doesn't work, I will consider cutting the door.
