yes it can but its a weaker trans, if you want to swap it into a miata it wont work simply because the miata is rwd and the 1.6l trans is fwd. But a g series trans from an escort gt will fit as well, basically all the b series trans will fit any b series block, so a 1.6l sohc, dohc, or a 1.8L bp trans will fit.

ok so this kinda ties in to one of those questions ive been wondering.
can you swap a miata motor into a mx3?
and is it the same as the bp?
cuz miata motors are wayy more available than anyother bp here in idaho.
and i wanna do a bp swap into my rs. then build it for 400 to 500hp.

and the miata motor will drop straight in right?
well for the trans i will do the toyota e153 trans.
i am going to wyotech in september.
specializing in chassis fab. engine preformance, and custom fab.
so i will be building the car there. (only cuz i get free machining and a discount on tools and parts.)
i still have alot of research to do.
i want to find the best transmission that with some modification will hold up under 400 to 500hp. ive herd something about using a rav4 trans for the awd.
i might wanna go awd sense 500hp is alot.
and it would seriously improve my jump off the line.
im not looking for whats easyiest for the build or whats cheapest.
this is gonna be a full blooded drag car with a mazda heart and body
