It's riding hard now - why ?

Post by EggyRollz »

So as you guys know , I picked up this car that sat for 5 years. When I drove it home it seemed a little rough on the strut/suspension side but Utah doesn't have the best roads to begin with.

Anyways , I drove it on a brand new silk smooth road today and it rode good over about 40 mph. as I was coasting/slowing it would seem like I was being jarred up and down. I don't think I have bent rims because i've had it up on jacks and in drive to check for that and they look straight as can be.

Could a bent CV be the culprit as well ? - I don't hear any clicking or odd noises from them.
worn bushings ? - it sat for 5 years subjected to utah weather which is like hell sometimes.
blown struts ? - The rear squeaks when I push down on the back.

Any help would be appreciated guys =)

Blown strut- "bounces" when you push down on the car.
Worn bushings- "rattling" noises/wandering on the road.

I would check your control arms, ball joints, sway bar mounts, ect.
Hope this helps and good luck!

The front end hardware all seems too perfect to be true but the rear looks rather ghastly. Should I focus on anything specific in the rear end ? I forgot to mention but it also has a weird ..( how to describe it ) grinding , crunchy , squeaking sound in the rear when I go over bumps.

Also when the car sat for all those years it was about 6"s deep in dried mud and it had to be pulled out.

I have replaced struts on a couple cars before and it has greatly improved the ride quality of them. You never know how bad it is until you put new parts on it, and then you see how bad it really was before. Comparing the ride quality of before and after, bad or blown struts can give the feeling of a rough ride cause they are really doing nothing to dampen the springs at all at that point.
