Wrong alternator?

Post by anjin1982 »

so i recently purchased a alternator from here and after getting and looking at it it has a different wiring harness than my 92 sohc...i believe its from a 95-96 Millenia due to the 110amp output...i looked at several alternator swaps but there for the gs models which include cutting off the mx-3 wire harness and cutting in the Millenia harness...do the same rules apply to my rs?...Will the alternator bolt right up as well? any advice?

After some more reading should i get the mounting bracket too?

I may be totally wrong... but aren't all the alternators pretty much a 2 pin connector, and then the power strap?

I put an 2002 MPV alty on my BP. this doesn't seem to much more far fetched than that.

If it looks the same, it likely is. If you must, solder in the millenia connector. As long as the same number of pins.

Just make sure its the same belt type. I had a hell of a time trying to find a V belt pulley with the correct shaft diameter. Stupid V belts.

You may need to get creative in fastening it. although the bolt may line up, it may go in from the other direction, or need a nut on the end, or a longer bolt... you won't really know until you try.

Personally, I wound up using a power steering bolt from an 1999 protege, that worked well with my MPV alt. was long enough, the correct thread, and just barely fit in from the wrong side.

good luck.

thanx ryan...yea the millenia as a power pin for the regulator so i would need to cut in a three pin harness...now the pulley diameter i never thought of....gotta look into that now lol..im tempted to go to a mechanic and say "here make this fit in this"

I don't know for sure where it's at, but if you search, there is a thread about the millenia alt and how you can wire it up to work.
