KLZE distributor&motor questions

Post by SpatialTerror »

ok so i bought a klze. i think it is a millenia motor. but from what ive read all i have to do is get the right cams and pistons?
and another thing. my distributor on this new motor is shot. can i use the one off my old k8?
and yes i have put it the motor in.
so i am still kinda unsure if i have the real klze. i know that cams arent the kl-21 there the kl-01 which comes in the millenia right?
but how do i know if the pistons are the right ones?

Pistons will probably be ok, I would not bother, I don't even think you'd notice a massive difference from having ZE ones.

The cams should be KL31, if it's KL01 you will probably have a little less power.

You can use the old disty, in fact people recommend you always use your old disty as it's wired up correctly for your ECU. The one from your new engine might be from a different year and might not work because of it.

sweet. so the cams dont make a huge difference.
and that was my problem. i put the old dist on and it works great

Oh they would make a difference, not night and day but in an MX-3, a healthy millenia engine with some headers will haul a-- nicely.

ok so a friend of mine also told me to put headers on it. but i am planning to put a turbo on it. not in the near future. but is it better to go preformance without a turbo or. preformance with a turbo? and i am also thinking to put headers on temporarly until i get a turbo. could i resell my headers easily?

Pretty sure headers are cheap as chips in the USA so you wouldn't pay much for a set in the first place and it would help your power.

I'd be going with headers and an N/A application as it's more reliable, you can beat on it fairly often and the engines last long when maintained. Turbo just adds a whole lot of potential problems IMO and it's expensive to do it properly.

I've read many times before and agree with the statement that you can have:

Cheap and fast (not reliable)
Fast and reliable (not cheap)
Cheap and reliable (not fast)

You can't have all three though :P
