I need Some Help!!

Post by krucialmx3 »

Ok I was Driving Down The Interstate The otherday and i was doin around 85mph maybe 4k on the tach and my mx3 just died so I pulled over and tried starting it and it would crank but wouldnt fire ?? I havent really checked into it yet .... due to weather and shop availabilty .... but we just overhauled the 1.6 in it and it ran fine for about a month then this happened ... any ideas maybe dist. or fuel pump? a sensor of some sorts ... i know someone on here has way more knowledge of mx3's then i do ...

Welcome to the Forum!

A car dying and not starting is a pretty narrow list of symptoms... like telling a doctor you have a rash, and asking what it could be... one of a thousand things! So lets try to get some specifics

First off, is the Check engine light flashing when you try to start?

Hows your timing belt?

Any goofy sounds?

Anything else funny about it?

Ok I did some Diagnosing of the problem.... Timing belt broke.. ya it sucks but how bad of a pain to fix since of the interference motor crap .... i havnt even pulled the head to look if the valve stems are bent ... but how good are the chances of nothing major happenin? ill prolly just do a swap now not sure... but if anyone is wanting a 94 Rs w/ 1.6 DOHC then hit me up its in good shape its lowered and has had motor overhauled a few months ago and now the timing belt broke

Your chances are about 100%. The B-Series engine is non-interference, so belt snaps, you just gotta re-align the timing marks and throw a new belt on there.

definately non-interference.

Just re-belt it. make sure timing is on before putting the covers back on.

I don't know what motor you have. (SOHC or DOHC)

Line up the crank pully. Lineup the cam pullies. (E point on exhaust cam, I on intake) and then slip the belt on and put on tensioner. Do a revollution or two of the cam pullies (plugs out, wrench on cam or crank pully), and make sure everything still matches up.
