Mazda MX-3 1.8 V6 Running Problem. Bogging Out!!!

Post by nay369 »

Hi

I have recently sold a 1.8 V6 Mazda MX-3 to a customer after running it myself for about 3 months. It never missed a beat for me and was perfect! A week into the new customer having the car she rang up and said it had been running lumpy and her boyfriend had to limp it back home. We went to tow it back and managed to bump start it. It ran awfull all the way back.

When we got back and looked into it we decided it was the temp sender that wasnt working. This was making it chuck lots of fuel in when cold. We replaced this and it started up perfectly. We gave it her back and it was perfect.

Anyway a day or 2 later she rang back and it was like it had jungle juice in it as she explained. We had it back and replaced the Cap and Arm. Then We replaced the plugs. Then eventually we replaced the leads.

It seems to have a slight miss fire at about 2500 to 3000 rpm when the car is under load or when your foot is flat to the floor on the accelerator. When it is cold it doesnt seem to do it but when it gets warm it does it in about 2nd and 3rd gear.

We've since put plenty of fuel in and a treatment to make sure it wasnt some bad fuel and also replaced the fuel filter.

Can someone please help because its getting to a point now where we'll probably have to buy the car back or put more and more money into it and seen as we only sold it for £1095 we cant really afford to.

Thanks for looking and i look forward to hearing from someone.

My first guess would be the all-in-one distributor.

Since i am new to this car, I ask you...why would a distributer start to malfuntion when at a higher rpm or temp?

As i have said though, have replaced the dissy cap and arm all to no avail. We now think its being starved of fuel after replacing most of the electrical system.

It is not the Disty Arm or the Cap, it is the Ignitor inside the Disty that goes bad. The fix is a new Distributor as the ignitor is built inside the distributor on a MX-3. You can install an external ignitor, but that is alot of work too (more info on the external ignitor can be found at the FAQ section under HEI Mod).

actually its not that hard to do and its cheaper than swapping out the distributor, I got all the parts for mu buddies car including a cap from these guys http://www.prdonline.com/osc/catalog/pr ... {6}19{1}27, new distributor would have cost a lot more than a coil and gm module plus an hour to wire it.

Thanks for all your replys. Order a distributor yesterday for it. A man at Mazda said it'll be that and after your comments i decided to go for it.
Thanks again.
